Skull and Shackles
The Journal of Ezikial Hands, Journeyman Gunner Part Twenty
Off we went, then, after the legendary treasure of Cyrus Wolfe. The contained a riddle which I shall include here:
_ “From blue bight’s embrace
Spy the Grave Lady’s prize tooth
With the Dawnflower’s first kiss
Climb the Captain’s wayward orb
To claim old king’s hoard.”
Rieko did relate the tale of Captain Wolfe, who had plundered the coasts of Garund nearly a century before. He was so successful that he was offered the crown of the Hurricane King, which he refused. His vast wealth was then split up and secreted about, but the choicest part was secreted in a place guarded by a beast from the depths of hell.
Meanwhile, my experiments with gunpowder and grenades are not going well,
(the journal goes into great detail on the workings of fused gunpowder grenades, with sketches, diagrams and equations)
We did find a Chelish ship in the midst of sinking of Shackles pirate and, as was our wont, snuck up upon it. Finding it little guarded, we took it with only a small effort and later gifted it to the remnants of the pirate crew in exchange for their service to Chopper.
After this exchange, we made our way to Mancatcher Cove. It was a very nice deepwater cove with little to no beach and high cliffs. While we were approaching, I sighted a ship slipping away behind another island in the archipelago. Upon closer scrutiny, the ship proved to be the Thresher, Inkskin Locke’s ship.
When he was notified, Captain Chopper ordered us away and after her. The battle was brief, with our catapult making short work of her sails and the ballista making even shorter work of her wheel. The fight aboard was bloody, leaving only a handful of their crew alive.
Afterwards, Chopper set then in longboat and sent them into the cove to check for the beast we had been warned of. No such monster showed itself, but the longboat was tipped and the remaining crew consumed by sharks.
