Skull and Shackles
The Journal of Ezikial Hands, Journeyman Gunner Part Nineteen
After the festivities of the Captain’s wedding, at the time that the keep’s door would be closed, the shaugin came out of the sea in a mad dash for the opening. Feruzi startled my by jumping right off the tower to the doorway. I chose to swing and climb my way down. While we were able to rebuff their assault, there were casualties amongst the Keeps regulars. Our shining moment, of course, was the Captain jumping down from the 3rd floor without his trousers.
Not long after, in the late watches, the keep was assaulted again, this time by pirates. Whilst I was able to rouse the crew and launch a couple of bolts at the landing party, they did make a landing to be met by Reiko and her swords. With our crew split between the keep and the _Crisis, it took some time to muster our forces and by then the invaders had blasted to door apart with magic, entered the keep and assaulted the inhabitants on the upper floors.
In a long mad scramble, we did indeed reach the upper floors in time to save Lady Smythee, but not the good Sergeant. A solid shot from my father’s pistol wounded the one we recognized as Inkskin Locke, a pirate captain of some renown, but the shot did not end her life, as it should have. Being a sorceress, she hurled a lightning bolt at us, revealing herself to be the one who had broken the door and slaughtered the guardsmen.
The Captain, once again without his trousers, tackled Locke out the 3rd floor window onto the stones below, where she clawed at Chopper’s deep-platinum necklace before Feruzi finished her with an arrow in her throat.
After we had re-secured the keep, we discovered that a certain tattoo of Locke’s was a map to a well-storied treasure. This did interest Captain Chopper and we made ready to sail as soon as we were repaired.
