After the storm had passed, the Wormwood found herself close upon a reef and, having a fancy for fresh crabs, the captain bade the some be brought to him. Plugg wasted little time in assigning myself and my mates to this task, having provided us with crab-pots to bring back our bounty.
After we had swum to this reef and fill a couple or so crab-pots, we were accosted by what are called “Reefclaws”, an eel-like creature with lobster claws, which, in some places, considered a fine repast.
On returning to the ship, the captain himself came to review our catch, and, in a fit of good humor, awarded me, who had been closest to him, a vial of reddish fluid, which chanced to be a potion of the healing variety.
Later, with my previous thought of making sure of Reiko, I did approach her after the working day was over. Not being very familiar with her or her habits, and mostly uncomfortable in inquiring directly, or even speaking more than a few words to another, I spoke haltingly in Tiennese and inquired as to her reasons for being on the Wormwood. While I was able to ascertain that she sought her brother, whom Scourge had known or known of, I was mostly unable to discern where her loyalties actually lay, although I was far from certain that she stood with the officers.
And so the days passed, from storm to heat and from questioning to watching, from work to boredom, with the eyes of those that wish us ill ever upon us.
. My soul quails upon the realization that I am running out of distilled spirits and may soon need to rely on the beverage provided by the ship, namely an evil rum, dark as the Scourge’s heart and as sweet as Plugg’s soul.
