Skull and Shackles
The Journal of Ezikial Hands, Journeyman Gunner Part Eleven
We at last arrived at Rickety’s Squibs and made the acquaintance of the afore mentioned Rickety, he being a former pirate and squbber of note.
Having struck our deal, we made our way into the town, or rather village proper and commenced our trading. I was able to acquire, and not little cost, the materials that I desired with which to craft and upgrade pistols. Our Captain, with the assistance of Conchobhar, was able to select a fine array of captainly clothing, including a hat with quite the remarkable feather and a coat of red with gold piping. Chopper does now appear to be quite the dashing pirate captain.
Having found that Rosie was to be Mate to my Master Gunner, I allowed her to accompany me with my trading so that she may see what items would be useful in the crafting of firearms.
Feruzi and Reiko, being of a similar mind, proceeded to recruit crewmen to fill out our roster and the remainder of our, admittedly light, crew were allowed shore leave to spend their shares and take some rest.
It was upon one of these rest times, that Chopper and Reiko ran afoul of a Naga and suffered in the killing of it whilst rescuing one of the workers. Feruzi and I, having been notified by other residents of Rickety’s, hastened to assist, but arrived just as the creature was dispatched. Making my self at least somewhat useful, I was able to recover the barrel of beer, leaving Reiko to come ashore without assistance. She, of course, retaliated by knocking me from the dock into the water, thereby ruining the priming on my pistols, and providing some amusement to those in attendance.
It was remarked upon that the Naga had, perhaps, come down the river in search of sustenance due to a draught affecting the area.
Meanwhile, I have made use of the local tattooist, and had Besmara’s mark inscribed upon my back in bold colors. Having found myself drawn to the Pirate Queen, this, in some way, made me feel closer to her.
On the morning of the fourth day, we were alarmed by a buzzing noise that heralded an onslaught of giant wasps, which, again because of the drought, had assaulted the village. Eager to put my newly made weapons to work, I made to help in repelling the beasts and rescuing those who I may.
I was pleased to find that the upgrades and my freshly crafted weapons worked quite well indeed, even to the point of causing one of the wasps to explode, unfortunately it did explode upon Reiko, but she seemed not to mind it.
When the wasps had been set to retreat, we were notified of an odd occurrence, as a ship arrived at the village. It was odd that there had been no forewarning by the lookouts, and, honor bound as she was, Reiko made to bid them wait lest the new arrival attempted harm.
